Fortune and Fame is a collaboration song that was written mainly by JoeZworld. He actually wrote everything and the lyric’s. Then I went in and paginated, did the phrasing of the lyric’s and sung the song, did all the production mixing and mastering. The music is awesome and I really like the chorus part that flows so well.
Enjoy a JoeZworld/Aldo Collaboration!
Greetings to all:
The ‘Buzzman’ (I can say that and get away with it I think) is correct in describing the piece as a ‘collaboration’ in that I supplied all the materials for the composition but did not sing it myself. In fact, I left that to Buzzi as I was curious as to what the final result might be. This piece was recorded in GarageBand (Apple) and is a slight departure as I almost invariably work in Cubase Pro. I didn’t have my “go to” vsti’s nor did I have access to my suite of plugs and my bucket of ‘tricks’. It is done in concert pitch and as I was limited to GarageBand effects and it’s proprietary ‘library’ I was certainly limited. Buzzi and I had minimal discussion regarding vocal timing, vocal tone and ‘timbre’ and even less about the lyrics and the ‘plotline’. I think he did an exemplary job in interpreting the lyrics I supplied and (as well I would know) managed to ‘herd’ the piece into a manageable shape overall. Buzzi and I were only recently reconnected although we’ve known each other for many years and worked together years ago as the lynchpins of a band known as ‘Vinyl Flesh’. Aldo has probably alluded to this group somewhere in his online musings. Photographs might be a small part of that recollection.
Buzzi has an approach that is as ‘refreshing’ as it is imprompto. Any of our ‘collaborations’ had to be done quickly – he’s not one to dwell on small deatails. On the other hand, JOEZWORLD is very much about the small details and the BIG details as well. But the events leading to this CD effort were really pleasant as we revisited our old ‘band day’s’ and reminisced about the “club scene” we were both a part of (in different capacities) and the associations of our ‘musical youth’. I might use the term: ‘Musical Youth’ Aldo so don’t try and wrestle it away. Vinyl Fleshs’ repertoire was indeed ‘eclectic’ and we were blessed with great supporting talent though Buzzi and I were the songwriters of the band, if not individually then certainly as a duo.
Collaborational songwriting is always a challenge. Currently, decades from those old sessions, it continues to be so and I guess I’ve become accostomed to the fact that once you agree to pass a song idea around with your bandmates, it will almost always lead to surprises, most of them good, given time and ‘open minds’. I don’t know that I would have done this tune very differently than Aldo has in this collection. He’s managed to pull off a clean, honest interpretation of this tune and in so doing has managed once again to highlight his enormous talent and flare for the unexpected. Thanks Al for inviting me into the session and I look forward to future endevours.
Regards,
Joezworld
