Intense Molecular Activity

In the midst of recording groups such as John Zorn, Sonic Youth, Liquid Liquid, Glen Branca and many others, Don Hunerberg and Andy Blinx found time to hone their own unique sound and version of Post Punk, No wave, Synth Wave with the tools of the trade of the early eighties. Situated above the proscenium of the Radio City Music Hall stage, the studio was outfitted with a variety of orchestral instruments. 4 of these tracks were released on a fexi-disk in 1980. Those and an additional eight are heard on their 2008 release “now again for the first time”.

Sorry to say Andy has passed away a few short years ago and he is missed for his inventiveness and creativity

In My Dreams is a bit autobiographical, written with my wife in mind. Certain lines like, “Now it’s just the two of us” is about our children that are now grown up with lives of their own and we only have each other. The chorus is my admiration for my wife and our love together, how I will be true and always love you. The dichotomy of the song is the guitar lead that I wanted Kimo to come up with in which it is similar to Chris Isaak’s, “Wicked Game” lead guitar riff, as I just loved that guitar riff. In wicked game Chris Isaak sings (I really wish I had his voice) just about the opposite of what I’m singing about. Although if you watched the video for “Wicked Game”, he’s making love through most of it with this beautiful babe, Helena Christensen. But he sings about her making him fall in love with her and how wicked that is by her to do that to him and ends with, Nobody loves no one. In My Dreams is a melodic love song with smooth flowing music ending with the subtle rumbling of waves slowly caressing the shoreline.

Joezworld is the master mind behind this song collaboration. “Z” sent me the music pretty much complete and said to me, “put some lyric’s to it”. Literally the first time I heard the song the lyric’s pop into my head and I started singing to it. I immediately pushed the record button and bingo, I had just about all the lyric’s down and the basic phrasing. I spent the next 3 hours refining the flow and tone qualities of the lyric’s. The lyric’s I wrote was about missing someone and how I fucked up in a relationship. I  recorded, saved it and sent it back to “Z” to ask him if he liked it. It took a day or two and “Z” responded and it’s funny, he liked what I did and the lyric’s, BUT, he told me he had a totally different take on the theme of “Feels Like Forever”. “Z” said,”it’s a song about coming together rather than falling apart though arguably it’s more difficult to write lyrics about happiness than about sadness.” at that point we laid out some ground rules for long distant collaborations, tell me your thoughts on the song so we are on the same page! At the end “Z” commented, “I like that premise -go with it.” So here you go …..

The release of my new album (CD) has been a labor to get bloggers to pick it up, review and help an indie artist out. It’s sure seems like most of the bloggers are more interested in charging some sort of fee to promote new music instead of sincerely wanting to get new music out to the masses and help many long laboring musicians and artists get exposure. I sincerely question their motives of why are you doing a blog in the first place? Being an older musician that has been around for a while and has seen a tremendous amount of really talented musicians and artists try to get exposure and in many cases NOT to seek fame and fortune, but to just share the pure enjoyment of people appreciating their talents. Bloggers are you interested in being a part of honestly reviewing and getting an indie artist exposure or are you out to make money off of them (note in more cases then not that artist has little money to spare if any). Don’t get me wrong, I fully understand some bloggers make a living off of blogging, although I still challenge them to look inside themselves and ask why they started blogging to begin with. I’ll bet most bloggers started with a passion to write some interesting article or review and expose some new (or old) artist or musician or subject manner that at one time or another they were passionate about.

So to that end – This a a Blogger challenge  –

Bloggers, ask yourself? Were did you start from and what are you given back to your passion? Is it worth every once in a while to pay it forward and give an artist a plug – Just because you feel that they are worthy in your eyes to get some exposure.

Come everyone!

We need all our friends, family, next of kin, your next door neighbor, the guy panhandling on the street, your boyfriend, your girlfriend, your kids,-SHIT we need everyone to help make this a success story and share the love and the music.

Feel the Music

A collaboration of eclectic styles from many different influences over the course of this musical journey. This album has two other artists that helped me envision this project with two very different styles. From Straight forward rock and roll to some Tom Petty, Dylanist feeling songs and then we twist you around to some very progressive more intricate songs and sounds. As the music comes together and flows from one song into another the collaboration works extremely well and the feelings that are brought out are genuine and timeless.

To be Release soon!

“SURFING”

Yup, the final touches are done on Eclectic Collaborations and it’s been sent off to be pressed, copied, printed and whatever else that is needed to produce the finished CD. This album has been a lot of fun putting together as there are so many different genres that is captured that I never really dived into before. This is all a result of playing and connecting with the two other collaborators on this project. First and foremost, Kimo who is an old friend guitarist since my childhood day’s that is a straight forward rocker liken to The Rolling Stones and Tom Petty. You’ll hear some of these influences in a few songs on the album like , Pocket Full of Change and Losing you. Kimo played on many of songs on the album adding guitar riffs, vocals and some random hooting and hollowing. Joezworld on the other hand is a more slick and polished musician that you will hear on Fortune & Fame. “Z” was in my band Vinyl Flesh so if you follow my blog/website you can hear his influences from back in the days of the VInyl Flesh band. Z also is an accomplished graphic artist in his own right, and he supplied me with the cover and background art for the album.
